Happy Easter 2011

Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian Celebration, the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ. For Christians, the dawn of Easter Sunday with its message of new life is the high point of the Christian year.

What is the Easter story ?

Easter is the story of Jesus' last days in Jerusalem before his death. The Easter story includes Maundy Thursday (the Last supper leading to the Eucharist), Good Friday (the day on which Jesus was crucified) and Easter Day (the day on which Jesus came back to life).

It is a sad story because Jesus was killed. But the story has a very happy ending, because Jesus came back to life and visited his friends and followers once more. He did not die at all, but went back up to Heaven to be with God, his father.

Why do we give eggs at Easter?
Easter is a Christian festival. For Christians the custom of giving eggs at Easter celebrates new life. Christians remember that Jesus, after dying on the cross, rose from the dead. They believe that, through his resurrection, Jesus defeated death and sin and offers people the promise of eternal life if they follow his teachings.

What were the first Easter eggs like?
The first eggs given at Easter were birds eggs. These eggs were painted in bright colours to give them further meaning as a gift. We still paint bird eggs today but usually only chicken eggs.

*so, today 6am in the early morning, i went to church already..

Good Friday...

What is Good Friday?

On Good Friday, Christians remember the day when Jesus was crucified on a cross.

Why is it called Good Friday?
The name may be derived from 'God's Friday' in the same way that good-bye is derived from 'God be with ye'.
It is 'good' because the barrier of sin was broken.

What happened on Good Friday?
Jesus was arrested and was tried, in a mock trial. He was handed over to the Roman soldiers to be beaten and flogged with whips. A crown of long, sharp thorns was thrust upon his head.

Jesus was forced to carry his own cross outside the city to Skull Hill. He was so weak after the beating that a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, was pulled from the crowd and forced to carry Jesus' cross the rest of the way.

Jesus was nailed to the cross. Two other criminals were crucified with him, their crosses were on either side of him. A sign above Jesus read "The King of the Jews."

According to the bible:

The third hour of the day - Jesus was nailed to the cross.
(9:00 am )
The Sixth Hour of the day - darkness covered the land
(12:00 noon)
The ninth hour of the day - the darkness left, and the Lord died
( 3:00 pm).
The hours in the bible are calculated from the first hour of the day, being 6 in the morning.

What happens on Good Friday today?

Fasting
Some Christians fast (go without food) on Good Friday. This helps them remember the sacrifice Jesus made for them on the day of crucifixion.

Procession
Some Christians take part in a procession of witness, carrying a cross through the streets and then into church.

Special Church Service
Many churches hold a special service. This may be a communion service in the evening or a time of prayer during the day, especially around 3 o'clock as that is about the time of day when Jesus died.

Many Churches hold services lasting three hours. They may celebrate the Stations of the Cross, or take part in Passion plays and dramatic readings.
Churches are not decorated on Good Friday. In some churches, pictures and statues are covered over. It is seen as a time of mourning.

As Christians are minority in West Malaysia, so we don't have public holiday here but in Sarawak, there is public holiday there..

The Last Supper...

The Last Supper is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci. It is a picture of the last supper of Jesus and his disciples and shows how they reacted when Jesus said that one of them would betray him, each disciple has their own expression showing their own reaction to what Jesus had just told them.

Below is the story of the last supper...

The evening came, and Jesus and the twelve disciples sat to eat the meal.  The disciples were eating quietly, they had a lot on their minds.  They were worried because some people wanted to kill Jesus because he was getting so popular.

Jesus could see the disciples were worried.  He said to them quietly, "I tell you the truth, one of you here will betray me."  The disciples looked at each other in shock, and some of them asked Jesus, "It isn't me, is it Lord?"

Jesus replied, "The one who dips his bread into the bowl with me will betray me.  I will die, just as it is written, but the man who betrays me will feel sorry forever.

Then Judas, with his head down spoke quietly to Jesus, "It isn't me, is it?"  Jesus answered, "Yes, you are the one."  Judas' head went down even lower, he had hoped that the other disciples had not heard what Jesus said.  Luckily, they were paying more attention to Jesus breaking apart some bread.

He thanked God for the bread and shared it with the disciples and said, "Take this and eat it.  This is my body which is given for you".  Then he took a full cup, thanked God for it and said, "This is my blood, which will be poured out  for many people so their sins may be forgiven."  Then they all took a sip from the cup.

The meal continued after this, it was a long celebration.  The disciples took their time, because they enjoyed talking with Jesus and asking Him questions.  (Just like when you go out to eat with your parents and their friends, sometimes they seem to talk forever, and you just want to go home...).

After some time Jesus got up from the table and went to a different part of the room.  He took off his everyday clothes, and put a large towel around him, making himself look like a servant.  After that, he poured water into a large bowl and began to wash the disciples' feet.  Then dried them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.

First of all, Jesus is like a King - but even greater than a king, He's the King of King's!  By washing the disciples feet He was doing something that only a servant would do.  This would be like if someone famous came to your house and started to clean your room, even getting down on their hands and knees to clean under your bed!  It probably would never happen.

When it was Peter's turn to get his feet clean he said to Jesus, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"  Jesus replied, "You don't understand what I am doing, but you will later."

"No," said Peter, "you will never wash my feet."  He said this because he didn't feel right having Jesus wash his feet.  He knew Jesus was very special.

Jesus replied back to him, "If I don't wash your feet, you cannot be with me."

"Then, Lord,"  Peter replied, "don't just wash my feet but my hands and head too."  Jesus then explained that He only needed to wash his feet; and that would make his whole body clean.

When Jesus had finished washing all of the disciples feet, he put his everyday clothes back on and returned to the table.

"Do you understand what I have done for you?"  Jesus asked them.  "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and that is who I am.  And now that I have washed your feet, you can also wash one another's feet."

This is an example of how you should treat others.  You don't have to actually wash other people's feet, but by doing nice things to other's and acting like a servant for Jesus, that is what He wants you to do.  If you do these things Jesus will bless you :)

Sarawak Election 16/4

me, as a Sarawakian, of course i will concern about the destiny of my beloved hometown...

The Barisan Nasional (BN) has managed to keep its two-thirds legislative majority in Sarawak but The DAP doubled its presence to 12 and PKR tripled its representation although the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lynchpin had contested in 49 seats. PAS lost in all five seats it contested while Independent George Lagong took one seat.
The number of state seats to the Opposition pact will spell danger for BN as it could help them win more parliamentary seats when the general election is called by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. PR now has 75 MPs but the Sarawak win could translate into more in the future.
My hometown state is N.39 Repok. i already registered as a voter but seems i don't have holiday so i cant vote for this time..
Congratulation to Dr. Wong Hua Seh.. hope you can bring changes for Sarikei :)
